“While I Waited” – ANNA

Who is that lady? She is always here. What is her name? Did you say Anna?  The story begins…there was a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of  Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was very old;  she had lived with her husband seven years after her marriage, and then was a widow until she was eighty-four.  She never left the temple but worshiped night and day, fasting and praying.  Coming up to  that very moment, she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem.

Anna’s marriage lasted only seven years and sorrow visited her home,  Anna’s husband died.  All of  her dreams of a family and children were suddenly gone.  Her friends constantly tried to get her to date after her mourning period was over. But something was happening on the inside of Anna and she could not explain it.  They did everything to get her to leave the temple but she refused.  She herself did not quite understand it all. But she was yielding daily to this tug at her heart.  Her husbands brothers were offended because the custom was that they would marry the widow and there by continuing the heritage of the brother.  But Anna was refusing to marry again.  The Lord would become her husband and provider.  She felt that God had given her his best and she would go on with just those memories of him and their last dance.  She gave her self to the Lord as his bondservant and continued to serve him in fasting, prayer and worship night and day.  It seemed almost seamless as she entered into this covenant  as an intercessor.  In the house of God, they called her a prophetess.  She was well-trained in the things of God and she could preach she had such understanding and insight into the things of God Her father Phanuel had noted it many times when she was growing up but hid the observation in his heart, because after all she was a girl.  The other children would be playing she would be lingering by him as he studied the Torah, asking many questions, beyond her years.  It was as though she understood the most profound things the Elders discussed.

Anna, remembered the words Jacob had spoken over her family and she cherished them. Asher’s food will be rich; he will provide delicacies fit for a king”. Anna, continued to dine on the richness of God’s table for many years after her husband passed.  She had found refuge in his house of prayer and she gave herself to the ministry of the house in fasting, prayer and worship.  Her vow as a Nazarite  would be fully honored. He captivated her heart and it became all or nothing for her.  There would be no compromise for her she was totally his to intercede on the behalf of the salvation of Israel. He (the Lord) needed a Gap Closer as some would say an intercessor who would not turn back from this call but would see it to the end.  It would a life time commitment in the ministry of intercession.

Anna, would seek his face daily the one she had fallen so deeply in love with.  She would sit for hours at his feet discovering the deepest communion with her Lord through prayer and fasting.  Others were jealous, but they were not willing to spend the time.  He taught her so many things during those times of prayer. He would share his intimate secrets with her at the altar and she would hide them deep into her heart until they would be fulfilled.  He shared many secrets with her, even the coming of his eternal son.  And the very day Mary and Joseph came to dedicate him she would be there on her watch in the temple to see what her eyes had so longed to glaze upon, “The Son of God.”   It would be a day she would remember that her waiting had not been in vain.  That day he had turned all  of her earthly sorrow into unspeakable joy, because she waited.

PRAYER! Just Do It!

Prayer what an awesome opportunity! But we must not forget that we desperately need the power of the Holy Spirit to pray effectively. He alone empowers us to wait as the disciples waited in the upper room so long ago. We need his power more than ever, we have gone in our strength far to long. With no results and only minor changes.

We must learn how to wait and pray effectively for our families, our pastors and our leaders (presidents, governors etc.,) and all that are in authority. We have a promise from the Lord that if we pray, we will lead a peaceable life.

Imagine what would happen if the church was open 24/7 for prayer. Imagine what would happen, if women all across the globe would begin to “call upon the name of the Lord” for their children, neighbors and nation. Imagine what would happen if wives would begin to cry out for their husbands? Imagine what would happen if men, became “GAP CLOSERS”? Can God start with you? Can he depend on you to stand int the gap and take up the hedge? Can he depend on you to pray until something happens? (PUSH) The emphasis is on women and girls and I believe God is up to something. Are you available to watch and pray? Hannah was available and she received Samuel, Anna was available and she spent her life in the temple fasting and praying. What about you? Are you to busy to stand in the GAP?

Companion Planting: Growing better together — Bee & Basil

The subject of our morning prayer taking the limits off of GOD!

Write On The Farm by Mark Akin

Ps 78:40,41 “How often did they provoke Him in the wilderness, and grieve Him in the desert! Yes, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel.”

Have you ever thought of God having any limitations?  People say, “Well, He’s God, He can do anything.” There are some things that God can’t do: 1- lie, 2- fail, 3- stop loving, 4- change, 5- be tempted. There are some things that He will not do: 1- over-ride someone’s will, 2- force someone to do His will, 3- turn someone away that comes to Him in faith, 4- leave us or forsake us.

God has some self-imposed limitations upon Himself. Such as not moving beyond the sovereignty of His Word, but as far as God goes, He has no inabilities, no restrictions; He is limitless, but we have the power to limit Him. How can we limit…

“Be reckless immediately, fling it all out on Him. You do not know when His voice will come, but whenever the realization of God comes in the faintest way imaginable, recklessly abandon. It is only by abandon that you recognize Him. You will only realize His voice more clearly by recklessness.”

Abraham Planted Tamarisk Trees

I love gardening and reading this reminds me of how God’s choice of a garden to communicate with us is still vital. Lessons from my garden brings me such great delight.

God as a Gardener

Tamarisk (2)Abraham  planted tamarisk trees Beersheba. Read Genesis 21:22-34.

In about 2091 B.C., God directed Abraham to leave Haran and travel to Canaan. God told Abraham that in Canaan, the Promised Land, He would make Abraham the father of a great nation (Genesis chapters 12 – 17). When Abraham left Haran he was about 75 years old. He traveled with his wife Sarah and his nephew Lot.  After entering Canaan, Abraham pitched his tents between Bethel (on the west) and Ai (on the east).  With the exception of a brief time in Egypt, Abraham lived in this region for the next 14 – 15 years.

When Abraham was 99 years old, he had a visit from three angels (Genesis chapter 18). The angels announced that Sarah would give birth to Abraham’s son and that they planned to destroy Sodom for the depraved sinfulness of its people. Shortly after Sodom’s destruction, Abraham…

You Know You’re on an International Flight when…

Diary from the Desert

Below are some random observations I have made on flights to and from West Africa.  Do you have any to add?

You take a bus to the plane.

The bus ride is 30 seconds long.

A man gets up to give a woman his seat on the bus.

A young man gets up to give an old man his seat on the bus.

The vast majority of people on the bus don’t speak your language and are holding various colored passports.

You understand what some of the people are saying because you speak their language.
You are the foreigner.

The bus takes you to the waiting plane on the tarmac where you carry your carry-on up a huge flight of stairs while wishing you had packed lighter.

The safety demonstration on the plane is done in 2 languages.

The safety demonstration suggests loosening your tie and removing your high-heeled shoes…

A crutch is something you lean on when you’re hurt or weak. It can be a physical crutch you use because you broke your leg or a friend you depend on a bit too much when you’re having a tough time.
A medical crutch is a device that helps you walk when you’re injured. A psychological crutch helps you when you need it, or think you do. Medical crutches come in pairs and have soft pads that fit under your arms and handles to help you rest your body weight on them. Other types of crutches fit securely around the lower part of your arm. The Old English root word is cycle, “staff,” and the figurative meaning dates from about 1600.

What is your crutch? Is prayer your crutch or have you made man your crutch?

Let’s look at some verses where the Psalmist made God his crutch/source to lean in and upon when he felt helpless to walk alone. Surely God is my help; the Lord is the one who sustains me. Psalm 37:17 For the arms of the wicked will be broken, But the LORD sustains the righteous. Psalm 37:24 When he falls, he will not be hurled headlong, Because the LORD is the One who holds his hand. Psalm 37:40 The LORD helps them and delivers them; He delivers them from the wicked and saves them, Because they take refuge in Him. Psalm 41:12 As for me, You uphold me in my integrity, And You set me in Your presence forever. Psalm 118:7 The LORD is for me among those who help me; Therefore I will look with satisfaction on those who hate me. Psalm 119:116 Sustain me according to Your word, that I may live; And do not let me be ashamed of my hope. Psalm 145:14 The LORD sustains all who fall And raises up all who are bowed down. Make God The Father your helper and ask him to sustain you daily in all your untakings. Rely upon his word.
